ANS 2026: IEEE ISPA 2026 Special Session on AI-Networking Synergy
Over the past decade, artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from a theoretical curiosity into a powerful engine that drives innovation across nearly every domain of networking and distributed systems. AI algorithms are no longer peripheral tools. They are now deeply integrated into the operation of data center fabrics, time-sensitive industrial networks, edge and cloud platforms, the Internet of Things, embedded systems, and next-generation cellular wireless networks such as 6G and beyond. Recent breakthroughs show that AI can substantially improve traffic prediction, adaptive routing, resource orchestration, anomaly detection, and security enforcement. As a result, it is fundamentally reshaping protocol design from the physical layer up to the application layer.
At the same time, the rapid growth of generative AI and large language models has imposed extreme requirements on the underlying network infrastructure. Training these massive models relies on distributed GPU clusters that generate huge volumes of bursty, all-to-all communication traffic. To handle such workloads, networks must move toward ultra-low deterministic latency, lossless deep-buffered switching, and intelligent congestion control. These features are not optional. They are essential for achieving efficient and stable AI training.
This bidirectional interdependence defines the frontier of contemporary research. AI empowers networks, and networks enable AI. This synergy calls for a holistic, cross-isciplinary dialogue that connects distributed computing, hardware design, communication theory, and intelligent algorithms. This Special Session aims to serve as a premier forum for presenting cutting-edge results, sharing practical deployment experiences, and fostering collaborations that will shape the future of AI-native networking.
We invite submissions from academia, government and industry that present novel research on the topics as following areas:
AI-Powered Modeling and Optimization:
- AI/ML methods for data-center networking, time-sensitive networking, cloud/edge computing, vehicular, airborne, satellite, and NextG cellular networks
- AI-driven network architecture design, topology optimization, and measurement
- Explainable AI (XAI) solutions for communication and networking systems
Networking for AI Workloads:
- Network design and traffic management tailored for large-scale AI training (e.g., LLMs, distributed deep learning)
- Transport protocols, flow scheduling, and load balancing for GPU clusters
- Lossless, deterministic, and deep-buffered network fabrics
Cross-Cutting and Emerging Directions:
- AI-driven resource allocation, admission control, and security mechanisms
- In-network computing and programmable data planes for AI acceleration
- Benchmarking, testbeds, and experimental platforms for co-design of AI and networks
- Standardization, deployment case studies, and lessons from production systems
Paper Submission
All papers must be submitted electronically via EDAS at https://edas.info/N35736. Submissions must not substantially overlap with previously published papers or papers concurrently submitted to other journals or conferences. Special Session papers are limited to 6 pages, and must be formatted in the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Format. Templates and formatting guidelines are available at https://template-selector.ieee.org/. All submitted papers will undergo a single-blind peer review process.
Paper Publication
Papers accepted by IEEE ISPA 2026 Special Session will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. All accepted papers will be submitted to IEEE Xplore and EI.
