PIVOTS 2026: IEEE ISPA 2026 Special Session on Privacy, Integrity, Verifiability, Operational Resilience, Trustworthiness, and Security for Parallel and Distributed AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly trained, deployed, and coordinated across accelerator clusters, federated clients, cloud, edge, and device platforms, decentralized networks, and multi-agent systems. These architectures improve scalability, data locality, availability, and resource utilization, but they also expand trust boundaries and expose AI services to data and model poisoning, Byzantine behavior, privacy leakage, rollback and equivocation, compromised orchestration, and unverifiable training or inference.
Addressing these challenges requires security mechanisms to be co-designed with the underlying parallel and distributed infrastructure. Privacy, integrity, verifiability, operational resilience, trustworthiness, and security must be maintained under communication and computation constraints, heterogeneous resources, dynamic participation, and partial failures. Effective solutions should therefore provide rigorous guarantees while preserving scalability, efficiency, and deployability.
The PIVOTS Special Session solicits original theoretical, system-oriented, experimental, and application-driven contributions from researchers and practitioners in cybersecurity, parallel and distributed systems, artificial intelligence, networking, data management, and applied cryptography. It aims to advance secure, privacy-preserving, verifiable, accountable, and resilient parallel and distributed AI systems.
We invite submissions from academia, government and industry that present novel research on the topics as following areas:
- Security, privacy, and trustworthiness of parallel and distributed AI systems
- Secure federated, split, decentralized, swarm, and multi-agent learning
- Security of distributed large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic AI
- Data and model poisoning, backdoor attacks, and adversarial manipulation
- Byzantine, Sybil, collusion, free-riding, and compromised-participant attacks
- Gradient leakage, membership inference, model inversion, and model extraction
- Secure aggregation and privacy-preserving distributed learning
- Differential privacy, secure multiparty computation, homomorphic encryption, zero-knowledge proofs, and confidential computing
- Trusted execution environments, secure accelerators, and remote attestation
- Verifiable training, aggregation, inference, retrieval, and distributed data processing
- Data and model provenance, integrity, freshness, consistency, auditing, and accountability
- Operational resilience, fault tolerance, secure recovery, and security of cloud, edge, storage, networking, orchestration, and decentralized trust
Paper Submission
All papers must be submitted electronically via EDAS at https://edas.info/N35731. Submissions must not substantially overlap with previously published papers or papers concurrently submitted to other journals or conferences. Special Session papers are limited to 6 pages, and must be formatted in the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Format. Templates and formatting guidelines are available at https://template-selector.ieee.org/. All submitted papers will undergo a single-blind peer review process.
Paper Publication
Papers accepted by IEEE ISPA 2026 Special Session will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. All accepted papers will be submitted to IEEE Xplore and EI.
